‘Muppets Most Wanted’ a family-friendly film
This movie review is about “Muppets Most Wanted,” but I want to start off with a quick note about the short shown before the movie. “Party Central” is set at Monster’s University, and the Oozma Kappa group is attempting to execute a party. I’ll only add that it’s hilarious. Now, back to the real review.
The Muppets are at it again. “Muppets Most Wanted” is another classic Muppet movie full of fun songs, zany antics and more than a dozen cameos.
Of course the movie begins with a song and the Muppet gang breaking the fourth wall, the wall between the audience and the characters in the movie.
Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais), is an international tour agent who tries to get the Muppets on a world tour. Kermit the Frog is hesitant but eventually gives in. The Muppets, including Walter – who was introduced in the last movie – are thrilled. However, there is mischief afoot.
Constantine, the most dangerous frog in the world, just escaped from Gulag Prison in Siberia, Russia, and has made contact with his number two, Dominic Badguy. Dominic leads the Muppets to Berlin, where Constantine ambushes Kermit and joins the group.
I wish I could say more, but I’m getting excited and should restrain myself to allow you maximum pleasure when you see the movie.
“Muppets Most Wanted” is better than “The Muppets” in some ways. The 2011 movie was good at getting the Muppets back together, this new film gives the Muppets a chance to explore the new world they’re in.
The movie is full of fun and ridiculous songs, including “We’re Doing a Sequel,” “Interrogation Song,” and Miss Piggy’s version of “Macarena.”
The cameos are hilarious, although some have a very short screen time. Keep an eye out for James McEvoy, Tom Hiddleston and Saoirse Ronan. My favorite was Usher; the setup and execution of his appearance has been a long time coming.
Curiously, “Muppets Most Wanted” parallels the second Muppet movie, “The Great Muppet Caper,” in a few ways. Both movies feature criminals carrying out semi-elaborate heists. They also feature a song with synchronized swimmers.
If you’re into the Muppets at all, go see this movie. Take a date, go with a group, or go alone. It’s a great comedy.
