Murder mystery up next at Caine Lyric
The murder mystery thriller “Postmortem” will open at the Old Lyric Repertory Company Thursday, July 6, and continue Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8, which boasts both an evening and matinee performance.
“Postmortem” has thrilled audiences across the country and will be performed at the Caine Lyric Theatre as part of the Old Lyric Repertory Company’s season through Aug. 5. Written by Ken Ludwig, author of the acclaimed “Lend Me a Tenor,” “Postmortem” is described as a clever who-done-it mystery filled with suspense and laughter.
“This show pushes the envelope and will be an exciting ride,” said Lynda Lindford, “Postmortem” director. “Elements have been combined and presented in a melodramatic way to immerse the audience in the thrill of the ups and downs.”
“Postmortem” follows William Gillette, best known for his 30-year portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on the stage, as he tries to solve the murder of his fiancée. The cast of Gillette’s long-running show and family are gathered at Gillette’s old castle on the anniversary of Maude’s death. Gillette is determined to solve the case using Sherlock Holmes skill. When someone tries to kill him, the tables turn and no one can be ruled out as a suspect. Shots in the dark, ghosts and secrets too dark to hide keep the audience on the edge of their seats right to the shocking finish, Linford said.
“The director, Lynda Lindford, has filled the show with red herrings or possible suspects, so it seems like any of the characters could be the culprit,” said Amanda Beatty who plays Marion Barrett in the OLRC production. “Unique scenery and special effects have been woven with the story to create an exciting ride for the audience, complete with ghosts.”
“Extensive research was conducted about Sherlock Holmes and William Gillette to accurately portray the characters and the eccentricities that made them so famous,” said Linford.
“Postmortem” is the third show opening in the Old Lyric Repertory Company’s 40th anniversary season. Tickets are available at the Caine Lyric box office, 28 West Center St. in Logan. For tickets, call (435) 752-1500. For general inquiries, call (435) 797-1500 or visit www.usu.edu/lyric.
Look for “Relative Values” by Noel Coward, the OLRC’s fourth production, to open on July 13 at the Old Lyric Repertory Company.
The Old Lyric Repertory Company was founded by Vosco Call in 1967 to be a professional company as well as a training ground for advanced theatre students. Located in Logan, Utah, the OLRC is one of the last theatre companies in the West to offer a season in rolling repertory. The company is based in the department of theatre at Utah State University. The OLRC is supported by grants and gifts from the Marie Eccles Caine Foundation, the George S. and Delores Dore Eccles Foundation, the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Utah State University, the Cache County Restaurant/RAPZ Tax, the Utah Arts Council and the Bridgerland Travel Council.
