Many new technology jobs are coming to rural Utah.

Gov. Michael Leavitt signed a deal Wednesday. It will result in the creation of 500 to 1,000 new technology jobs with prominent national companies in the state over the next three years, he said.

“These jobs are in a health-care industry called medical informatics,” the governor said during his State of the State Address on Tuesday. “These jobs are coming to Utah because we’ve trained workers with specific skills employers need.”

Many of the new jobs will be located throughout rural Utah at 18 different “smart sites,” Leavitt said.

Over the past year, the smart sites have become one of the largest sources of employment in rural Utah, he said.

More information on the jobs, including methods for application will be available at the State of Utah Web site (http://www.utah.gov).
