Nightmare before Christmas

It might be for Halloween, but this spook alley is raising money for families in need during Christmas.

Spook alley organizers, Aggies for Ascension (pronounced Ah-sen-si-On) is a Utah State University club, formed only three weeks ago, that is dedicated to helping families in the town of Ascension, Mexico.

Ascension is a small town, not far below the border of New Mexico.

As part of their efforts to raise funds, Aggies for Ascension is hosting BENEFRIGHT, an interactive spook alley from 8-11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 28-30.

The spook alley will begin at the bottom of Old Main hill in the economy parking lot. Admission is $2.

The spook alley will include interactive games, a maze and other activities for participents.

Mark Grammer, co-founder of the club, said BENEFRIGHT will be something different.

“Generally, people spend a lot of money and get all these scary props, like squirting blood and scary ghouls and we can’t afford that. So, ours is going to be more human participants and there will be puzzles you can solve,” he said.

Grammer said it will be a fun activity for a date.

During Christmas, members of the club will go to Ascension, Mexico, from Dec. 17 to Dec. 26. They will bring hygiene kits, newborn baby kits, clothes, blankets, coats and more for residents in need.

Emilee Bradley, club co-founder, said they need money for donating food.

“All this other stuff we can get donated and take down to Mexico, but the food we actually have to buy in Mexico. We can’t take American food over the border – so that’s why we are trying to raise money,” she said.

Bradley, along with other students, organized the club after going to Ascension in past service projects. Bradley’s grandparents, Alton and Cheryl Thacker, are founders of Tiny Tim’s Foundation for Kids, a humanitarian organization, which spends most of its time in doing service in Ascension.

Aggies for Ascension is directly associatiated with TTFK.

TTFK, incharge of donating items, has helped built schools for the disabled, a physical therapy center, hospital and senion citizens hospital.

Both organizations will travel to Mexico this Christmas for service.

Aggies for Ascension will host a benefit concert Nov. 5 in Logan.
