OLRC Apprentice Production ‘Into the Daylight’ is Presented July 19 and 20

LOGAN, UT – An original play is offered by the Old Lyric Repertory Company, a work created and performed by the high school students who have joined the company in a competitive apprenticeship program.
          
The original production, “Into the Daylight,” is presented July 19 and 20.
          
The Old Lyric Repertory Company is an advanced theater program based in the Theatre Arts Department and the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University. Included is the OLRC Apprentice Program, a hands-on learning experience for talented high school students interested in the world of theater.
          
The capstone experience for the OLRC apprentices is a stage production. This year’s apprentice show is an original work titled “Into the Daylight.”
          
Richie Call is this year’s Apprentice Program director. He recently completed his master’s degree at Rutgers University and appears onstage for the OLRC this season. He worked with the apprentices to create the original play for this year’s showcase.
          
“The show comes from them,” Call said. “It’s not biographical, but it’s about a group of young adults going through the same experiences and dealing with the same issues that they are.”
          
The students created the show together in a format Call referred to as a “performance ensemble experience.”
          
“In my opinion, the Apprentice show is the most exciting theater experience in the valley this summer,” Call said. “It is less like a play and more like a little slice of life.”
          
“Into the Daylight” opens July 19, with curtain times of 2 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. There is an additional matinee performance July 20 at 2 p.m. All performances are presented in the Black Box Theatre, Room 224 in the Chase Fine Arts Center on the USU campus.
