Online survey open to students

The Utah State University Facilities Department is about to make some significant changes to accommodate students.

But there’s one catch; it’s up to the students what those changes will be.

From Friday to Feb. 21, students have the opportunity to take part in an online facilities survey. The survey is aimed at getting students’ input about improvements needed on various indoor and outdoor facilities around campus.

Eric Brimhall, Associated Students of USU Ombudsman Committee chairman, said, “The Facilities want to know more about what the students are thinking about certain things around campus. This is really exciting. I think it’s a good thing that an extension [of USU] is seeking to find what students want.”

Brimhall has worked in conjunction with Brian Andersen, director of Facilities Operations, since last semester. He has received input from many students on what questions to ask in the survey.

Concerning the outdoor facilities, some questions on the survey include whether the campus is clean, orderly and well groomed, the outdoor sitting areas are adequate, snow and ice removal is prompt and adequate and the outdoor waste disposal is maintained and adequate.

As for the indoor facilities, the survey asks questions such as whether the buildings and classrooms are clean and orderly, the desks are adequate and in good repair, the building and classroom lighting is adequate and the lounge areas are adequate.

Andersen hopes at least a couple of thousand students will take part in the survey, so they can identify a definitive pattern about what needs to be changed.

“This could be a significant tool to advocate how to make the changes,” he said.

Depending on the results from the survey, the Facilities Department will make improvements around campus as soon as possible.

The survey is available at http://fac.usu.edu/survey.htm. Brimhall hopes to have links to the survey added to the WebMail and A-station Web sites by next week.
