Open adoptions in child’s interest

To the editor:

I, as an adoptee, have to disagree with your article. Open adoption is for all the triad members of adoption. If you had bothered to read something beyond what the agency had to say, you would have realized this.

Adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents are chosing openness because it is in the best interest of the child. It is coming out in the open that birth parents want openness. More than 95 percent of birth parents want to know that their children are okay, safe, and healthy. Adoptees are wanting to know their heritage and health issues. Adoptive parents want the truth for their children. Your article read like an advertisement for adoption.

If you had also done your research, you would have discovered that adoptions cost an adoptive parent $50,000 a child. You would have also discovered that birth parents are scammed, coerced, and lied to about their child. Adoption needs to reformed. It needs to be about the needs of the child. Not the needs of an adoption agency that wants to make a buck off the backs of the adoption triad. Please make sure you write about adoption the next time make it an informed opinion. Don’t glorify adoption agencies that ply on a woman’s right to choose.
