ORC rents outdoor equipment for summer activities

Need help planning your summer trips or trying to find something to do, but don’t have the equipment? Visit the Outdoor Recreation Center for all your summer excursion needs.

ORC employee Jesse Woods, junior in horticulture, said the ORC has many rentals for students and the community.

Ryan Bickmore, senior in finance, said the ORC carries equipment such as canoes, kayaks, duckies, rafts, tubes, rock climbing shoes, backpack gear, tents, sleeping bags, wet suits, spray skirts and more. If renting a canoe for the summer, students need to remember to transport it safely with something like a trailer, Bickmore, ORC emlpoyee, said.

Woods said to rent a raft, students need to have a permit for big waters. Woods also said if students wanted to rent the kite boards, the director will go out and make sure the students are knowledgeable with the sport beforehand. With new boats and life-jackets, Woods said people as far as Brigham City come out to rent the boats because they are the cheapest around. Bickmore said if students want to rent a boat for the weekend, it would cost $150.

If staying in Logan for the summer, Bickmore said there is a lot to do.

“You could go mountain biking, kayaking, and backpack the Logan river,” Bickmore said. “Some rent tubes for floating the Logan River and the canal and a lot of people take the canoes to the marshes out there.”

Woods also said the ORC is planning day trips for the summer, which will be posted online. The ORC offers student discounts, Woods said, and everything is available by visiting the Web site: www.usu.edu/orc. There is no limit on how many rentals students can make or on how long the equipment is rented for. Instead, Bickmore said it depends on how long the student wants to pay for the rental.

The ORC hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and it is located at 1050 N. 950 East in Logan.
