OUR VIEW: Aggies–Tip hats to returning ballers

Following Utah State’s 64-61 heartbreaking loss to the University of Kansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Aggie assistant coach Don Verlin refused to settle for a morale victory.

“We’re disappointed we lost,” he said. “We thought we should have won.”

As frustrating as a close loss like this is, it would be absurd for a Aggie fans not to hold their heads high after this game. Simply put, the team did the university proud.

Not only did USU have to face the No. 6-ranked team in the country in Kansas, but also a motivated KU squad, who was livid it didn’t receive a No. 1 seed in the tournament.

It would have been easy for the Aggies to feel sorry for themselves after getting a raw deal by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. A No. 15 seed for a program that has been as successful as USU the past five years? Get real.

Nevertheless, the Aggies left it all on the court — something every athletics team should try to emulate.
