OUR VIEW: Don’t change A-game shirts

Entering the Spectrum during men’s basketball all of last season and all of this season people’s eyes were attacked by thousands of students and community members wearing blue A-game T-shirts. This was a welcomed sight for everyone because it creates a unified environment and shows our school spirit. That uniformity may soon be coming to an end.

The blue everyone was wearing was the brainchild of last year’s ASUSU Athletics Vice President Tyler Olsen. He helped sell thousands of the shirts and people have shown up to every game wearing them since. The shirt that he created was the perfect thing to revitalize the atmosphere of Aggie sports.

The legacy of the blue A-game shirt might be coming to an end, though. A contest has been developed to redesign the classic game day T-shirt. This contest has been proposed to revamp the shirt and create a new look and representation for Aggie athletics.

This is not a good idea. Why change something that is perfect? What is the purpose of holding a contest to recreate a shirt that needs no change? Those from ASUSU athletics said about the shirts, “[they] … are getting old and wrinkly, we want something crisp and new.”

So print new A-game shirts! Don’t try and change something that has no need to be changed. Just because something is “getting old and wrinkly” doesn’t mean we should up and replace it. Students should rise up and show ASUSU their A-game and let them know they love the blue classic shirt.
