OUR VIEW: Getting through the grief

Rumors began swirling around campus early Monday morning that a former Utah State University student might had committed suicide over the weekend. Amidst the confusion and sadness, many students, faculty, staff and community members have felt the horrible effects. We wish to offer condolences and make students aware of resources available for the support needed in dealing with inevitable hardships.

In no way do we condone suicide as a last resort or want to glorify such extreme measures, but we can learn or grow from this situation. The majority of us have been impacted by this kind of death at some point in our lives and realize that coping with something that is so unexplainable is difficult.

Those closest to this recent tragedy have used the USU Counseling Center or other professionals to help them, and undoubtedly will continue to for some time. Even those who have not been directly affected, but feel the need to talk, should use this resource. The Counseling Center, on the Taggart Student Center’s third floor, is a confidential and free service for all students.

The coming days and weeks will be most difficult for parts of our community and specific organizations on campus. We offer our grief along with theirs and wish them the best.
