OUR VIEW: Hall makes a good move by helping out

It’s nice when you pull up to a fancy hotel and the bellhop comes out, takes your bags, brings them to your room and then stands there with his hand out for his tip. Well, on Saturday and Sunday there were no tips accepted. President Kermit L. Hall and the vice presidents of the university were all at the residence halls helping students get situated before their first day.

Having Hall and other administrators there was great for those students who are not familiar with the leadership of the university. It is great to see these officials helping students move in, when normally they would be found stuck in their offices. Those students who moved in on Saturday and Sunday were able to ask questions about things that go on around campus and changes they would like to see take place.

Out of all those students who Hall helped, most didn’t even know who he was. He approached a few and stated he was a building inspector, a state football inspector and a laundry inspector. After each of these students bought into his false identity, he revealed who he actually was and the students were embarrassed for not recognizing him.

Many students don’t take advantage of the help the administration can offer. This act of kindness was a good start to opening doors for praise and complaints directed toward top officials regarding the successes and failures of the university. Students must learn where to find their resources on campus and how to utilize them properly.
