OUR VIEW: Starting strong; Facing the semester
This semester is already showing potential.
Logan’s weather has been relatively mild, air quality is breathable and Utah State will start the semester by celebrating a ribbon cutting of the new performance hall this Thursday.
With a lot to look forward to, we just couldn’t help but get in on the “New Year’s resolutions” bit. And while the offer might seem a little trite, we’re not the only ones honoring this tradition – even the university couldn’t resist implementing their new fitness program.
So here’s few resolutions for all of you out there who couldn’t come up with anything better than,”I’m going to be nicer to people.”
It’s January, so we’re required to reminded you all that even though the weather looks – relatively – nice right now, any day now, Old Man Winter will get back from his break and turn Logan into the icy, frigid and smog-covered void that we all know and love.
With this in mind, resolve to do your part to fight the inversion. Most students live within walking distance of school and can add less pollution to the air and work on their fitness resolutions by hiking up the hill every morning.
Try something different and push yourself out side of your comfort zone. Teach yourself a new skill, learn a foreign language, go to a city you’ve never been, talk to someone you would usually ignore, anything. If you find something else to do, your time here will be more fun.
Floss – everyday.
Stop putting things off. You’ll find you do better on tests if you’ve been studying the material for a month rather than cramming for a day.
Be more informed. There are events happening all around the world that affect us, even here in Logan. Take the time to find out what’s going on and why it relates to your life as a student. Read newspapers, watch the news and think about what’s going on.
Potential for a semester to remember – academically, physically and socially – is one thing; but living up to it is even better.
