OUR VIEW: Students–Talk to ASUSUEC

Congratulations to the new Associated Students of USU Executive Council.

The students spoke, and the voice of those who cared was heard.

April 18 is the day the new officers assume their roles as student leaders in hard times with a volatile economy. They will deal with budget cuts, college changes, protests and apathy.

They will receive criticism from the campus newspaper and from fellow students. They will run into scheduling snafus, red tape and brick walls from the administration.

But they do it out of love. They do it because they want to make USU a better place. Whether or not they are able to is a different matter. Remember, Executive Council members are students, too. They need to be given a chance to succeed. They need student input. They need students to be critical, and they need students to support them.

Instead of looking at campus relationships as competitive, why not look at them as cooperative. Students need to get up and go to ASUSU Executive Council Meetings. There are at least four more meetings in which students can begin to get acquainted with the workings of student government. Don’t let the meetings go to waste. USU is everyone’s school.
