OUR VIEW: Supporting Albrecht through involvement

When former Utah State University President Kermit L. Hall left Logan and headed to Albany, New York, the future of the university was put upon the shoulders of one man – Stan Albrecht.

Now one year later, the efforts of this former USU provost have proved to be that of determined improvement for the quality education that USU students receive.

But many don’t realize the work Albrecht puts forth or the benefits they are receiving from his leadership.

From 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at night, almost everyday of the month, Albrecht is working to make Utah State University a better institution. Although many of us may not see him everyday, his top priority is, and always will be, the students.

In addition to his efforts in boosting enrollment, he has also taken crucial steps during this year’s legislative session to make up for the devastating budget decreases throughout campus. As a public university, the items students consider most important such as tuition costs and financial aid, depend almost entirely on legislative funding. The move to hire a president with strong influence in the Utah Legislature is one that will benefit USU over and over again.

We encourage students to join President Albrecht in the fight for what USU students need by becoming educated about the issues our university is facing this legislative session and encouraging their representatives to do what is best for Utah students.

Albrecht is just one man, but his message to Utah lawmakers can be more than 23,000 strong.
