Parking and road closures change student routes
Campus construction started over the summer has altered and closed several driving routes and parking lots across the university.
With construction in progress on the new residence halls beside the Logan LDS Institute building and the Taggart Student Center, Champ Drive will no longer be a through street. The closure came on August 20, eliminating Champ Drive as a route between 700 N. to 400 N.
The turnaround on Champ Drive outside the TSC and 700 North remains accessible. Vehicles may enter from 400 North and continue to the Haight Alumni House turnaround.
The housing construction also turned Darwin Avenue into a dead-end-only allowing emergency access to campus.
Part of the construction plans for the new housing calls for a section of Champ Drive to be closed. This area will now accommodate a pedestrian courtyard and walkway.
West of the Fine Arts Visual building, the new recital hall is replacing more than 100 parking spaces in the C2 parking lot. The lost faculty parking will be replaced with previously designated student parking south of the Nutrition and Food Science building.
The change will allow for both faculty and student parking.
The east half of the parking lot is designated for students and accessible from 700 North only.
The west half of the parking lot is for faculty and staff, accessible from 1200 East only.
The north parking lot of the Nutrition and Food Science building is now open for both faculty and students.
To accommodate the lost parking by the new recital hall, there are plans for a possible parking complex to be completed by 2010.
