Parking is a joke, but no one is laughing
I am writing in response to the article “Parking policies on campus are a joke.” This is true, they are a joke, but no one is laughing. In fact, I think there is more to the story. As many of you may or may not have seen, two weeks ago there was an ad in The Statesman sponsored by the USU Parking Services. It basically said that a percentage of every issued parking citation would be donated in memory of our fellow classmates who died in the tragic accident. Is this ironic to anyone else? It is like donating stolen money in essence to a good and honorable cause. I know the parking services officials meant well; but no sooner did I read that ad in The Statesman I walked down the street and noticed a more-than-usual surplus of tickets wedged between the windows and the windshield wipers of cars. Coincidence? Maybe.
So, basically here I stand today with my assumption; obviously there needed to be an increase in parking violations to compensate and help balance out the “donations” they were losing. I used to get a pit in my stomach when I saw red and blue flashing lights behind me. Now the pit only comes when I see orange flashing lights coming toward me. The fear of somehow thinking I was parked illegally (depending on the need for revenue that particular month).
I send my condolences to fellow classmates who have received parking citations that too were ridiculous. As for the rest of the students I advise you to keep an eye on your book bag. If you leave it in a place where I can justify in taking it you may not see it again; I will be giving them to a local school as “donation.”
