Intramural coed soccer team Pele Punch defeated FBGM in a close match on Monday night, bringing the final score 4-3.

The game was started out strong when Pele Punch player Austin Truman scored within the first couple minutes of the game.

Keith Simpkins of team FBGM then came back in retaliation to score two consecutive goals. The first goal came when Simpkins struck a header into the goal.  A short period of time after he then fought past everyone to strike the ball in to the right side of the net.

“The only fault we had was not having enough players, but otherwise we tried our hardest.” Simpkins said.

During the game there were numerous saves by FBGM goalie Kevin Clifford. He also agreed with Simpkins that they played well and tried their hardest.

Pele Punch player Logan Harmon then fought to get another goal in and slipped past the goalie and kicked the ball through the air into the top center of the net. This tied up the game 2-2 to end the first half.

Both teams worked hard in the second half with a tough defense against each other. Betsy Blanchard of Pele Punch was a strong defender throughout the second half with many attempts on the goal.

“Personally it was hard for us girls to get in the rhythm since at first we didn’t have enough girls,” Blanchard said. “Though once we got it together and the girls and guys working together, we played a lot better as a team rather than being different players with talents.”

FBGM then scored their third goal of the game when several team members kicked it through to each other to then score it into the right corner of the goal.

Pele Punch then finished off the game by scoring their last two goals which brought them ahead of FBGM to take the game.

Garret Hansen made it through the tough defense of the FBGM players and struck the ball into the right corner of the net.

Austin Truman finished off the game as he started it and he brought the ball past everyone to hit it into the center of the goal. This finished off the game and brought the final score 4-3.

“I feel like we passed really well, the big struggle we had was finishing. We ended up getting a couple in there,” Truman said. “I feel like our team is really unified. We played really well together in our six games and it has been really fun.”
