Peterson named top athlete

Matt Glade

Utah Statesmen: What got you interested in volleyball?

Kindy Peterson: My older sisters played when I was younger and I would always try and play with them, but they would always yell at me because I wouldn’t do it right. So I would always have to sit and watch them and I was mad that I didn’t get to play with them.

US: What is the biggest difference between college and high school volleyball?

KP: The level of play is a lot faster and more intense. I like it better.

US: Is it hard to balance school, work and athletics?

KP: Sometimes, I guess it depends on the teacher and the time of the semester. Sometimes there are tests and stuff you have to balance out. It’s not too rough. It’s not the worst thing I have done in my life.

US: What athlete do you enjoy watching?

KP: I would have to say Misty May and Kerri Walsh. I like them both.

US: Have you ever played sand volleyball?

KP: No, not really, but I want to learn. That’s where I am going when I graduate.

US: Are you a baseball or football fan?

KP: I don’t know about that one. I would have to say football.

US: What other activities do you like to do besides volleyball?

KP: Anything outdoors. I love wakeboarding, snowboarding and hiking. I like to run and play basketball. Anything that makes me move.

US: If you couldn’t play volleyball, what other sport would you like to try?

KP: It would be basketball. I played last year down at my old school. It’s probably my second favorite sport.

US: How has playing volleyball helped you in your life?

KP: It just keeps me occupied. I hate having time on my hands or not having something to do, so I love having volleyball to fill it up. I’d rather be rushing through a million things than sitting and being lazy. It keeps me active and in shape, hopefully. It also teaches you good skills in life. You have to work with five other girls on the court as a whole team. You have to learn to work with a variety of people and that’s a good skill to have.
