Price is right for USU student

Each year, Utah State University students embark on wild and crazy adventures for Spring Break. Some go to Lake Havasu, some road trip across the country, and some go on exotic cruises.

In the end, most come back completely broke without enough money to feed themselves for the rest of the month.

However, one USU student came back with more than just a fun week of memories.

Shae Hancock, a senior majoring in graphic design, took a trip down to Southern California to be a guest on “The Price is Right.” She came back with a free sailboat.

Hancock arrived in Los Angeles, with six other USU students who all wore the same Utah State T-shirts.

They were contestants on the show for the Monday, March 10 taping.

She screamed her vocal chords out for the first round of the show until she finally decided she was tired of yelling.

It was at that moment that Rod Roddy called her name out of the audience.

“I couldn’t believe it, I was screaming so loud,” Hancock said. “I look back now, and I still can’t believe it.”

Hancock said most contestants give Barker a kiss once they get on stage.

“I didn’t give him a kiss,” she said. “He was really old and wore a lot of makeup.”

Hancock first bid on a world globe and then bid the right price on an American Day Sailor brand sailboat and won it.

She didn’t go down to California prepared to bring home her own sailboat, so the manufacturer will be contacting her later and shipping the boat to her.

Hancock and her group of friends from USU will be watching their show air on TV Monday, March 31. She said she hopes everyone else to watch along with them as they make a name for the Aggies.
