Holiday Cheer

When I called home Thursday December 7, I received some interesting news. While walking to his car after work on December 5 my step-father had taken a spill on campus. What made the story more interesting is the fact that he broke ribs four through nine on his right side, and bruised his liver. The best surprise was yet to come. A student saw him fall, did not acknowledge him, or ask him if he was OK. He just kept walking. It saddens me to hear this. My question is, “What kind of person leaves an older gentleman laying on the ground?” What happened to human compassion or common courtesy? If you were late for class or work, I do not think that your professor or boss would be too upset, especially if you told them that you had helped an older gentleman get off of the ground after a nasty spill. If you leave anyone laying on the ice you should be ashamed of yourself. I pose a question, “If your father or mother fell. Would you help them up? What if you were not there? Would you want someone to help them up?” It may look funny to see someone fall, but you might want to see if they are OK, or if they can get up. I have an idea. Trade me places. Become a Marine. Defend this country, come defend your own family, so I can be home taking care of my family. I do not regret my choice. I just regret that my family is left in such poor hands. Everyone makes choices in life. Are you going to be someone who lets life pass? Or, are you going to be someone who grabs life by the horns and embraces other human beings?

Please respond to me if this is going to be published or not. The man who fell on campus is a professor who has served students at USU for 20-30 yrs. I am not 100% sure of time. His name is Wynn R. Walker.
