Revamped security at Salt Lake Airport
In order to avoid some of the hassles of airline travel during the holiday season, the Salt Lake International Airport has some traveling tips for students.
Barbara Gann, director of public relations for the department of airports has provided this list:
•If traveling with an e-ticket, contact the airline in advance regarding procedures before coming to the airport. Travelers may be able to proceed to the gate if they are not checking baggage.
•Avoid packing anything that looks like or could be used as a weapon, including the following: Knives, cutting instruments, scissors (any size), ice picks, straight razors, box cutters, cork screws, etc. Also prohibited through the security checkpoints are: Golf clubs, ski poles, baseball bats, pool cue sticks, hockey sticks, etc.
•Laptop computers must be removed from the case and passed through screening equipment. Travelers may be asked to test other electronic equipment.
•During the holidays, arrive two hours before your departure time to check in and complete the security process
•Check with your airline regarding arrangements for unaccompanied minors, the elderly and other travelers with special needs.
•If travelers have a medical condition requiring needles and/or syringes, they must also have the medications that requires such injection with them.
•Avoid carrying bottles of liquid through the screening checkpoint.
•Purchase drinks and food you wish to carry on board the aircraft after completing the security screening process since the process necessary to screen them will take extra time.
•Gift-wrapped packages may require opening for security inspection. Wait to wrap gifts at your destination or wrap the lid and box separately so it can be inspected.
