Robinson earns athletic honor
Editor’s note: Robinson was named the athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 8-12.
Utah Statesman: Ninety-four yard kick return, did you just find a seam?
Kevin Robinson: Yeah, they opened up the hole and I just ran behind them. They carried me all the way there and I out ran a couple people.
US: Did you know you were going all the way as soon as you caught the ball?
KR: Not really, I mean you always think about it but then someone always trips you up or tackles you. I didn’t really think I was going to get there but then I just saw a big hole and just ran for it.
US: Do you like returning punts and kicks?
KR: Yeah I like returning but a lot of people get scared.
US: What makes you such a good returner that makes you ranked so high nationally?
KR: A lot of luck, we all wear the same shoes.
US: When you have spare time aside from practice and school what do you like to do?
KR: I mostly try to sleep a lot because I don’t get enough as it is. Video games like everybody else plays. We play a lot of Madden lately, NBA Live 2005, all the new games.
US: What has been your favorite moment since you started playing football?
KR: The opportunities to have my brother coach me.
US: What’s your ultimate goal while playing football?
KR: I came here with a goal to be a Freshman All American and right now I hope I’m doing a good enough job to get it. That would be my one goal for this year.
US: How hard is it to stay motivated while you guys are going through such a tough year?
KR: Really it’s not that hard, I come to work every day. I’m always going to play hard, I’m not one of those guys that slack off or if I do slack off people tell me and I get focused real quick. I play for everybody, that’s just what I do.
US: What got you playing football?
KR: I started playing football because of my older brother John. He’s the first one that started in our family. When I was a little kid I just watched him and wanted to be like him.
US: Was it always just football, or were there other sports that you played?
KR: I was more into basketball than football but I got a scholarship playing football so I stuck with it.
US: Who has been your biggest influence?
KR: I would have to say my aunt. We really didn’t talk that much until this year and now she calls me before every game.
US: If there was one thing you could do other than play football what would it be?
KR: Play basketball, that was my first love before I started playing football.
