Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are women?
“Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” is a play normally cast with two male leads, but USU decided to break the norm and cast Leslie Aldridge as Rosencrantz and Angie Roundy as Guildenstern. The show, based on two minor characters from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” will run in USU’s Black Box until Saturday, Oct. 18. Tickets are $13 and free to USU students. Paula Dawson, director of the play and USU faculty member, was quoted in a press release saying, “I chose to direct ‘Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead’ because of its wit, word-play and the wonderful opportunity it provides to apply physical theater techniques to the performance process. Our process has been about finding freedom within form, allowing the theater to come to us and ultimately sharing in an experience of joyful discovery. I hope the audience will also share, enjoy and perhaps even laugh at the discoveries we make. Freedom, joy, creativity and laughter, isn’t that the point of it all?”
