Scarffin’ Dawgs
It’s not very often some one throws up in the TSC.
It’s even less often that people cheer for it.
Monday was the first-ever Scotsman dog eating contest, held at 11;30 a.m. in front of the QuickStop.
Twelve contestants – 11 guys and one girl – competed for a $100 gift certificate from the USU Bookstore by trying to eat as many Scotsman dogs as they could in five minutes.
The rules of the contest were that the contestants had to eat the entire Scotsman dog and a bun for it to count. However, once it was chewed and swallowed, it didn’t have to remain inside. Buckets were provided.
Jordan Collins, a junior in finance, was the eventual winner of the event. Collins adopted the strategy of dipping the buns in water to make them easier to swallow.
The secret to Collins’ success: “Puke as much as [you] can.”
Collins said he was happy to win, but he’ll never eat another Scotsman dog again.
Bill Sproat, an undeclared junior who took second place with five Scotsman dogs, said he was a little disappointed with his results.
“I was just chewing and swallowing as fast as I could,” Sproat said, describing the contest. “I should have thrown up more.”
A Scotsman dog is a QuickStop specialty, available only on Tuesday. Quickstop employees describe them as a “cheeseburger in hotdog form.”
