Several Logan schools in lock down after reported shooting

At about 9 a.m. Tuesday, a man later identified as Jose Almaguer reportedly shot himself near the Shopko at 1400 North and Main.

Local residents heard the shot and called the police. Subsequently, the nearby Bridger Elementary and Cache High Schools went into lockdown.

Almaguer went to the house of an unidentified woman and told her he had shot himself. While she was calling an ambulance, Almaguer took her car and drove off. He was found and taken into custody less than an hour later.

Police confirmed he had what appeared to be gun shot wound to the wrist, and he was taken to the hospital. Police also recovered a baggie containing a controlled substance in the car Almaguer had stolen, which they believe he put there. On top of public discharge of a firearm, police are examining the situation for further violations.
