Shaw suspended indefinitely

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s basketball head coach Stew Morrill announced Monday that senior center Jarred Shaw has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

Shaw, a 6-10 senior from Dallas, Texas (Carter HS/Oklahoma State), currently leads the Aggies in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots at 16.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. He is shooting 54.3 percent (51-of-94) from the field, as well as a team-best 87.1 percent (27-of-31) from the free throw line. Shaw has posted a team-high two double-doubles this season, as well as posting double-figure points seven times, including tying for team-best honors with 18 points in USU’s 71-60 win over Utah Valley on Saturday night.

Utah State is 6-2 on the season and will play three games in three days in hosting the Basketball Travelers, Inc., Classic, sponsored by Gossner Foods. USU will host the three-day, six-game classic-format tournament at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum (10,270), and will open action against Western Illinois on Thursday, Dec. 20. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. (MT), following the UC Santa Barbara-Troy game at 5:30 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 20, Western Illinois and Troy will tangle at 5:30 p.m. before USU faces off with UC Santa Barbara at 8 p.m. The Classic concludes on Saturday, Dec. 21 with Western Illinois and UC Santa Barbara squaring off at 5:30 p.m. before the Aggies tangle with Troy at 8 p.m.

Thursday’s games will not be televised, but the USU games will be aired on the radio and audio streamed online on the Aggie Sports Network, as well as video streamed online through on USU’s website, www.UtahStateAggies.com. USU men’s basketball single-game, multi-game and season tickets are on sale. All single-game tickets will go on sale two weeks prior to each game. Single-game tickets will cost $18 for non-priority and $20 for priority, as well as $25 for premium game against UNLV (Feb. 15).
