Skyroom offers fine dining, weekly buffets

Ever wonder what’s on the fourth floor of the Taggart Student Center? A secret computer lab with no lines? Actually, it is the Skyroom, a Utah State University restaurant.

“The purpose of the Skyroom is to provide service for faculty, staff and students,” said Lynn Kirby, operations manager for Carousel Square, Catering and The Skyroom.

Kirby said anyone can eat at the Skyroom. Even though faculty and staff frequent the restaurant, students are encouraged to attend. Children are also welcome.

“We even have high chairs,” Kirby said.

The Skyroom is open weekly Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Kirby said. Thursdays a buffet is served, ranging in variety from Mexican to German foods.

Kirby said Thursdays are the busiest days because of the buffet.

Every year a different college of Utah State co-sponsors the menu, Kirby said. The College of Education is the present co-sponsor.

The hosting college develops a theme for the restaurant, Kirby said. It is responsible for the table displays, wall decorations and the graphics used.

The theme for this year is “It’s About People,” Kirby said. Past themes have included: “A Campus in Every Community” hosted from 1999-2000 by Extensions and “A Winning Tradition” hosted from 1998-1999 by Athletics.

The Skyroom is also used for receptions, wedding receptions and banquets, Kirby said.

“It’s available for whatever purpose people need it for,” Kirby said.

The Skyroom also features live piano music everyday, Kirby said. The pianists get a free lunch.
