Soccer tilt ends in tie

Monday, the Utah State University women’s soccer team traveled to Ogden to play the Weber State Wildcats in a match replacing the canceled games with Delaware and Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The Aggies came out tied with the Wildcats 1-1 after a full regulation game and two 15-minute overtime halves.

Although USU was looking to even the series at two a piece, the tie brought the all-time record between the two to 3-2-1.

The 5-foot-6 Utah State senior Becky Ward knocked in her second career goal for the Aggies 27 minutes into the first half.

USU took 23 shots in the game with 13 shots on the goal.

However, the Aggies were only able to get off three shots on goal during the overtime period.

The Aggies managed to ward off any goals throughout the remainder of the first half, but early into the second half Wildcat Anna Neisen posted a goal for Weber State from 25-yards out, evening the score 18 minutes into the second half.

This was Neisen’s third goal of the season.

Finally able to get on the board, the Wildcats switched to a three forward formation to combat the Aggies four-man back line which had been causing problems for WSU.

The game continued at an even pace and despite some strong goal attempts by Claire Schend and Karoline Johnson, Wildcat goalkeeper Kandice Golar managed to block all other attempted goals.

Golar had 12 saves on the Aggies 13 shots, two off of her career high of 14 saves two weeks ago against Boise State University.

“Their keeper played outstanding, she made some point-blank saves that I thought should have been goals,” said head coach Jen Kennedy Croft.

Despite the strong efforts of the Wildcat keeper, Aggie Tracy Brady held the Wildcats back notching six saves, including two in the second overtime.

The game then went into overtime, yet neither team was successful in posting a goal. After 30 minutes of overtime play, the match ended 1-1.

The Aggies now stand with a record of 1-2-1 on the year.

The Aggies will host Idaho State University on Friday at 4 p.m. and Wyoming on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Both games will be played at Tower Field.
