Softball falls at home to Utah Valley
The Utah State softball team walked off the diamond in defeat this afternoon, falling to Utah Valley University by a score of 8-2.
The Wolverines took control of the game early on when they scored seven out of their eight runs in the second inning. Utah State was finally able to put a run up on the board in the bottom of the second, when sophomore designated player Allanah Alvarado hit the second home run of her career.
“It’s hard to celebrate some of the good things we do when we have so many frustrating things that bring us down,” said Utah State associate head coach Windy Thees.
The second run from the Aggies came from freshman outfielder Leah Molina. Molina hit her first-career triple and was able to score off of a sac fly from fellow freshman, second baseman Stephanie Reed.
“We have faith in our team that we can come back from anything,” said Thees. “It is just a matter of really being disciplined at the plate and really hitting the ball hard, and we did, but we didn’t have timely hits.”
In the field, USU had a total of four errors, while the opposing team committed none.
The team has now lost eight of its past nine games, and currently sits with a 14-26 after the loss.
The Aggies will be on the road this weekend for a three-game series at New Mexico with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They will return home for their final home series of the season May 4-6 as they host San Jose State.
