Some things get better with time
Nice cheese. Grandmothers. Really classic cinema. Some things are good just because they’re old.
The Utah Theatre is a new thing to do in town (yes we do have things to do here) and yet some people still don’t want to go because the movies they show are “too old.” We think this is a bit short sighted.
That’s the point – to watch old movies, the way they were meant to be seen: big and wide. Nobody planned for the DVD release in the 40s.
These movies are still called classics for a reason. They still have the power to make the audience smile, laugh and cry. They can take you away to another place.
In a lot of ways they’re better than some of the stuff coming out of Hollywood these days. Just ask your grandpa, he agrees with us.
Plus, you should remember, any movie you haven’t seen is new to you.
The whole point of going out is to do something with your friends and/or family. The fact that you may be watching something old doesn’t change the amount of fun a group can have. On a final, more pretentious, note, film is an art form that has had incredible effect on our country over the last century. Watching these movies is a way to understand the time in which they were made, and by doing so, better understanding our collective culture.
Besides, some day you’ll be really old. Don’t you want people to think you’re still worth $5?
