Spencer Cox wins Utah governor race

Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox has been declared the winner for the Utah governor race.

Cox defeated Democrat and University of Utah law professor Chris Peterson with nearly 63% of the vote.

In a virtual speech, Cox said he would be the people’s governor.

“I am not governor of the Republican Party, I am the governor of Utah. I represent all of us,” he said. “No matter what your race, creed or religion, no matter what you believe, or who you are, we care deeply about you.”

Cox will succeed Gov. Gary Herbert and become the first new governor of Utah in over a decade.
