STAB aerobics step up student exercise

Cardio blast. Intense and fun. Energize yourself.

Phrases like these, along with “fun choreography” and “great cardiovascular workout,” are simple invitations for students at Utah State University to enroll in a cost-free aerobic exercise program.

The Associated Students of USU Student Activities Board (STAB) is offering students the opportunity to join free aerobic exercise classes currently being held at the Fieldhouse Fitness Center, along with the following timely reminder, “Please bring a water bottle to class.”

“All our classes are free for students,” said Jessica Clark, STAB aerobics instructor. “So all you have to bring is your current USU ID card to class.”

Other no-charge classes being offered right now include abs and stretch, aerosculpt, aqua, BAT (buns, abs and thighs), cardio blast and cardio combo.

Clark, a junior majoring in dietetics, said students should come to the class with their friends.

“Take charge in kickboxing and learn to kick some booty,” she said.

Clark teaches kickboxing, step, abs & stretch, cross-training and aqua, which is held at the HPER swimming pool.

Lindsay Lyman, ASUSU activities vice president, said, STAB aerobics initially started out of pure student interest toward doing something healthy, fun and free.

“[STAB aerobics] has always been a positive thing, because it’s free of charge and targeted for all the student population,” Lyman said.

STAB aerobics has also been so well-attended in the past, as a result of it being an exercise program located directly on campus for convenient student access.

Clark, who has now taught aerobics classes for the past three years, said, “[STAB aerobics] is good cross-training and not just the same routine over and over again.”

She said aqua aerobics is also an effective way to exercise, with the constant resistance of water pressure against the muscles.

Clark said aerobics classes stress more choreography and camaraderie than just equipment and the clock, meaning more than just an otherwise regular routine.

“Guys are welcome, too,” she said. “Stay involved and stay in shape.”

Overall, Lyman said she feels STAB aerobics classes entail an all-around good asset for one’s college

education.

“STAB aerobics is a good way for students to take advantage of the fees they pay for and then receive benefits for such an investment,” she said.

Clark said aerobics classes require no equipment for students to bring and are great breaks from school, now that it’s winter.

“There’s still plenty of room for more class attendants,” she said. “But hurry. There is a maximum occupancy limit.”

Students wishing to register for classes may do so by contacting various STAB aerobics personnel via any of the following WebMail addresses: stab@cc.usu.edu, fieldhouse@cc.usu.edu.
