Statesman Athlete of the Week
Aggie running back Robert Turbin rushed for 180 yards and scored two touchdowns in Utah State’s win over the Weber State Wildcats, Saturday, Sept. 10.
Turbin became just the eighth player to reach the 2,000-yard career rushing milestone in school history, but said he feels he can do better.
“Obviously, it is a great class of guys to be in, with Emmitt White and those other guys who reached 2,000 yards in a career,” Turbin said. “Hopefully it is something I can build on and continue to get better. Hopefully that will transition into winning football games — more football games.”
Turbin was named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the week and also tabbed to the honorable mention Running Back of the Week list on collegefootballperformance.com.
For his first score, the 5-foot-10, 216-pound junior took a hand off from freshman quarterback Chuckie Keeton 14 yards into the end zone to tie the game up at 17, just before halftime.
His second came after a 31-yard pass from Keeton to senior wide out Xavier Martin to bring the Aggies to Weber’s 31-yard line in the third quarter. Turbin took the ball in for the score on the next play to make it 30-17 and cap off a drive spanning four plays, 80 yards and 1:14.
