‘Storytelling through Opera’ features Special Guest at USU’s Museum of Anthropology
Utah State University’s Museum of Anthropology hosts a special guest speaker, Michael Ballam, founder and general director of the Utah Festival Opera Company, in a lecture presentation Saturday, June 19. The event is part of the “Saturdays at the Museum” series.
Ballam is the featured speaker and will discuss the art of storytelling through the medium of opera. His presentation begins at 1 p.m. in Old Main, Room 225. Following the presentation, guests are invited to the museum (Room 252) for light refreshments.
“We at the museum are honored to have Dr. Ballam speak for our Saturdays at the Museum program,” said Ashley Smith, program coordinator. “Storytelling comes in many forms, such as oral tradition, television and books. For this event, Dr. Ballam will discuss the many ways in which storytelling is conveyed through opera and theater.”
In addition to the guest speaker, the museum will offer activities throughout the day concerning storytelling and opera. The activities include a listening station and informative mini-exhibits about opera and storytelling from cultures around the world.
The USU Museum of Anthropology is on the USU campus in the south turret of the historic Old Main building, Room 252.
USU students and members of the public are invited to the museum any time during open hours. It is open six days a week, with regular hours Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For Saturday activities, free parking is available in the adjacent lot, south of the building.
