Student Dances

I was on the Student Council for 1952-53 (a long time ago). We had a similar problem as you are appearantly now having with small attendance at student dances. We charged about $2.00 per couple and were luckey to get 100 students at a dance. When we opened the “new” Union Building in December 1952, we gambled and brought in one of the top dance bands in the country at the cost of approx. $2500 which was about 20 times what we had been paying for SLC bands. We filled the ballroom and actually made a small profit. We followed up with at least 6 more major dances with the top dance bands in the country and each was a big success. I do not have any idea if such an approach would work today but it might be worth trying.
