Student loves training dogs and eating Rice Crispie cereal

By Chari Ingram

The Utah Statesman caught up with junior English major Becca Stanford to learn a bit about her.

Utah Statesman: Where are you from?
Becca Stanford: Ogden.

US: Any hobbies or interests?
BS: Dog training and sleeping. Yeah, that’s all.

US: What’s your favorite food?
BS: Ice cream.

US: Any particular flavors?
BS: No, I just like them all.

US: Favorite cartoon?
BS: Rescue Rangers.

US: Boxers or Briefs?
BS: Boxers.

US: Favorite Cereal?
BS: Rice Crispie treats. That’s not really a cereal. I guess it would be Rice Crispies in treats.

US: What would be your dream vacation?
BS: Egypt. I’d like to see the tombs and pyramids over there.

US: What is the dog being trained for?
BS: People with disabilities. Not just for the blind, but for people with other disabilities as well.

US: Do you get paid for it?
BS: No, it’s all volunteer.

US: How long have you been training this dog?
BS: It usually takes a year to a year and a half. After that the dogs get sent to California to go through advanced training. I’ve had this one since he was eight weeks old. His name is Zeeland. He’ll be done in November. Yeah, I will probably cry a lot.

US: Have you trained dogs before?
BS: Yes. I’ve always been an animal fanatic. I started training my first dog when I was in high school.

US: Do you plan to train again?
BS: Yes, definitely. It’s something I’ll probably do for the rest of my life.
