Student Services moves to Provost Office
Through the guidance of President Kermit L. Hall, the Provost Office and Student Services were reorganized and moved to better accommodate students.
A few of the services before provided by Student Services have been moved to the Provost Office, in what some staff feel is a positive move said Jan Benson, assistant director of recruitment and enrollment services.
USU had been unusual in structure because we had such a large student services, said Joyce Kinkead, vice provost for undergraduate studies and research,
“Now we’re more like our peers” Kinkead said.
The reorganization allows Student Services to focus on providing student support, while allowing the Provost Office to focus more on the academic side of the departments. Enrollment management has also been moved to the Provost Office.
The reorganization focuses on enrollment services, registration and helping students pay for school.
The reorganization has “all informed voices sitting around the table,” Kinkead said.
“It’s an opportunity for Student Services and the Provost Office to work very close together on enrollment management issues” said Patricia Terrell, vice president for Student Services.
“The move is more in line with the academic mission of our office,” Benson said.
It increases the visibility of recruitment and enrollment services not only state and nationally, but also internationally, Benson said.
“We’re very excited,” she said.
