Student wants to put monkeys in Congress; thinks they’d do fine
Theresa ForresterSenior,Social Work
Hometown: Meeker, Colo.
Favorite Color: Blue
Favorite Food: Americanized Mexican
Utah Statesman: Why did you come to USU?
Forrester: Because I met my husband on the Internet and got married. He’s from Smithfield, so I moved here.
US: What’s your favorite thing to do outside of school?
Forrester: Probably garden.
US: What do you garden?
Forrester: Flowers and vegetables.
US: What’s your favorite vegetable?
Forrester: Broccoli
US: Why are you sitting on this curb?
Forrester: I’m waiting for my husband to pick me up.
US: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Forrester: A social worker.
US: Are you a True Aggie?
Forrester: What is the definition of a True Aggie?
US: It’s when you kiss on the ‘A’ on a full moon.
Forrester: I’ll have to look into that. I’ll talk to my husband. I guess there is hope.
US: What would you do with an unlimited supply of monkeys?
Forrester: You guys don’t really want to know. I’d probably let them go in the capital with the senators and congressmen. That seems like a good place for an unlimited supply of monkeys.
US: If you had $1 million?
Forrester: Pay off all of my bills and my house. Then after that, I’d do something socially responsible. Well, after I helped my mom and family out, there are some really neat social programs I’d like to start.
US: What do you like to do on the weekend?
Forrester: I guess play in our yard. My husband works here with the research lambs. I like to play with the babies.
US: Are you a farmer?
Forrester: That’s what my husband does.
US: Do you like Utah?
Forrester: I don’t. I’m learning, I’m adjusting.
US: Why don’t you like it?
Forrester: I’m from a city with an elevation of 6,700 [feet]. It’s too hot here and it’s too cold here. I come from a place with a population of 2,500. There are too many people here. I’m old and want to be quiet. Most natives of Colorado think the rest of the world is below them.
US: Isn’t that more of a Texas thing?
Forrester: They try to invade Colorado. We call them turkeys. We’re pretty egotistical, us Colorado people.
US: Is this your first bachelor’s degree you are working on?
Forrester: It’s my first bachelor’s, but I have an associates degree as an electronics technician.
US: Why did you come back to school?
Forrester: I was working in social services without a degree, so basically I was just a paper pusher. I wasn’t making any difference in people’s lives. Without that piece of paper you can’t do anything. That’s a good lesson for people thinking about not going to school.
US: How do you like your eggs?
Forrester: Poached. I boil water and crack the egg in the water and put it on toast.
US: What is your favorite animal?
Forrester: Horses, I think. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always loved them. We used to have to go rent them. I have four cats. I like goats too. They are so cool, curious and mischeivious. They have personality.
