Students prepare for Christmas tree lane
While snow falls all over campus, students are becoming anxious for the holiday season. On Dec. 3, both the second annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas Tree Lane will heighten the excitement.
Karmann Clements, Associated Students of Utah State University organizations and traditions vice president, has been busy planning Christmas Tree Lane and the Christmas Tree Lighting on the Quad.
“It is a great way to start the Christmas spirit,” Clements said.
Christmas Tree Lane has been a tradition here at the university for a long time, she said. On Dec. 3 clubs will decorate trees in the Sunburst Lounge.
“There will be 50 trees and stands provided,” Clements said.
In order to decorate a tree, the clubs need to sign up in the Taggart Student Center, Room 326 by 5 p.m. Friday.
The trees will be on display from Dec. 3 through 7. They will then be donated to needy families in the valley.
“I will take them to Sub for Santa,” Clements said.
Chi Omega sorority is one club that will be decorating a tree.
“It has been a tradition and it goes to a good cause. Trees make a home at Christmas time and the tree we decorate will be special for them,” said Jamie Blomquist, a member of the Chi Omega sisterhood committee.
The Christmas Tree Lighting will take place in front of Old Main on Monday at 7 p.m. There will be free hot chocolate served. President Kermit L. Hall and Mayor Doug Thompson will be present when the lighting takes place. The 50-foot tree will remain lit through finals week. Each of the clubs decorating a tree in the Sunburst Lounge will make a big ornament for the Christmas tree.
Other Christmas activities on Monday will be an appearance by Mr. and Mrs. Claus on the Quad from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Polaroid pictures with Santa will be taken for the price of $1. At 2:30 p.m. there will be ice sculpting on the TSC patio.
