Students win College of NR awards

First generation university student Sandra Keil got a big surprise recently.

Keil, student senator for the College of Natural Resources, was awarded both the Outstanding Senior and the Jardine Juniper award at the college‚s annual awards banquet. Greeting her was her high school counselor, Becky Crumbo, a college alum who was instrumental in Keil‚s decision to study natural resources at Utah State. The counselor saw a lot of talent in the student, and gave her the extra push she needed.

Keil, who had just flown in from Washington, D.C., where she was serving an internship, was also surprised to see her family from Arizona, who had told her they wouldn‚t be able to make it.

,It was an emotional reunion when Sandra saw Becky and her family at the banquet,‰ said Maureen Wagner, student advisor for the College of Natural Resources.

Other awards included Scholar of the Year and Honors graduate, Jamie P. McEvoy, Valedictorian Jacob A. Schaub, Teaching Assistant of the Year Owen T. Nevin, Research Assistant of the Year Todd L. Sullivan, Teacher of the Year Nicole Haynes McCoy and Advisor of the Year Mark W. Brunson. Other outstanding seniors were Maria P. Torres, Jarom M. Gilbert, Bryce A. Griffiths and Wm. Adam Sigler.
