Summer arts events for the USU community
July is here, and with it, Utah State University is playing host to many artistic events. From theaters to galleries or live music to Tai Chi, there is sure to be something in the lineup that appeals to you.
Collecting on the Edge Part II
When: July 1-31, All Day
Where: Nora Eccles Museum of Art
You might be interested if you feel that every story needs to be told. This exhibit, featuring art from 172 contemporary artists, portrays the American West in ways you may not have ever seen before.
Artists of Cache Valley
When: Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Where: Chase Fine Arts Center, Tippetts and Eccles Galleries
You might be interested if you enjoy a wide variety of artistic styles. The galleries will feature many forms of media created by local artists including fused glass pieces and photography.
A Woman Speaking to Women: The Political Art of Nina Allender
When: Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., first Saturday of the month 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Old Main 252
You might be interested if you want an insider perspective on the life of a suffragist. The docent-led tours every Tuesday at 2 p.m. provide an opportunity for a more enriching experience as you promenade and ponder the ideas presented in Allender’s political cartoons.
Tai Chi and Qigong at the Museum
When: Every Wednesday, 12 p.m.-1 p.m.
Where: Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art
You might be interested if relaxation and introspection are your idea of a lovely afternoon. Lead by Sherrie Mitchell, a Qigong practice leader, this activity is the perfect opportunity to take a breather this summer.
NEHMA and Utah Public Radio USU Sculpture Walk
When: July 16 and 30, 9-10 a.m.
Where: Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art
You might be interested if a light walk, light refreshments and light discussion with some art suits you. Join Alyson Decker and Emily Byrd on a stroll around campus in the cool morning air to gain insight into the sculptures on USU campus.
Clybourne Park
When: July 4, 12, 18, 24, 27 and August 2, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Chase Fine Arts Center, Black Box Theatre
You might be interested if a snapshot from the civil rights movement mirrored by contemporary issues sounds stimulating. This play, set soon after A Raisin in the Sun (also part of the summer repertoire) brings to light the social issues of then and now. USU Jazz Orchestra European Tour Benefit Concert
When: July 2, 7-8:30 p.m.
Where: Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall
You might be interested if you would like supporting your fellow Aggies on their European tour. The USU Jazz Orchestra will be performing in world-famous festivals and this concert will be a sneak peek of what they will showcase across the pond.
Thursday Evening Music at NEHMA
When: July 11 and 18, Aug 8; 5-7 p.m.
Where: Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art
You might be interested if you enjoy low-cost sophistication. Admission is free, as is the parking, and if that’s not enough to tempt you, there will be free coffee and tea from Caffe Ibis for patrons as they stroll through the exhibits.
With the start of fall semester fast approaching, stretching out the hours at these celebrations of artistic talent might be the perfect way to spend a day.
