Summer is a time for fun, relaxation, and the most exciting movies. Here’s a list of movies that you should keep your eye on, they are slotted to make millions of dollars and please audiences everywhere.
May 6- Captain America: Civil War. This is the most recent addition to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Civil War slates two giants, Captain America and Iron Man, against each other in the battle of the year. Common movie goers and comic book fans alike will love this, with the addition of two new characters, Black Panther and Spiderman, this movie is projected to prove great success yet again for the MCU and Marvel Studios.
May 20- Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. This is the sequel to 2014’s Neighbors starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. Both Rogen and Efron will be reprising their roles in this film but this time around they are on the same side. This is going to be just another run of the mill comedy that will make you laugh, but in the end won’t have the staying power that so many of the other movies coming out will have.
May 20- Angry Birds. A movie adaptation of the famed app Angry Birds, this movie will tell the story of the birds and the pigs and the eggs. It will entertain the children but with other competition from Disney, there is an uphill battle for Angry Birds.
May 27- X-Men: Apocalypse. The next big superhero movie this summer, anticipated as the culmination of the entire X-Men franchise we see our heroes up against their biggest threat yet, Apocalypse, the “god of the mutants” who wants to rid the world of humans and from the ashes build a new world where mutants are the main race. The X-Men have their work cut out for them and will have to work together again to save the world from Apocalypse.
May 27- Alice Through The Looking Glass. The second entry from disney following up Alice in Wonderland (2010) and shows Alice racing against time to save the Mad Hatter. This is another one of Disney’s live action remakes of an animated classic and moves forward with the story.
June 3- Me Before You. Alright guys this is definitely a date movie! Take the opportunity, this movie is anticipated to bring a few tears to the eye. It tells the love story between a man who is paralyzed and his small town care taker. Take the opportunity for another date and enjoy the change of pace this summer.
June 3- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. The second installment in the series after the first which was directed by Michael Bay. You can expect a mindless action packed movie to strictly entertain you, while at the same time paying homage to so many of our childhoods.
June 10- Warcraft. So many of us grew up playing world of warcraft, and other games in the same series and now we are finally seeing a movie adaptation of the beloved game.
June 10- Now You See Me 2. While I feel like they missed out on an amazing title opportunity (Now You Don’t) the sequel to Now You See Me (2013) will follow the Horseman on their next adventure seeing what will come of their future and the next exciting heist they pull off.
June 17- Finding Dory. The much awaited sequel to the beloved Pixar classic Finding Nemo will take kids and adults alike on an awesome adventure through the ocean meeting a lot of memorable characters and finding some possible origins to Dory’s passed and will show how their relationships will change.
July 1- The Legend of Tarzan. The live action retelling of the story of Tarzan. Not produced by Disney so don’t go in expecting a retelling of the animated classic. This movie will give some detail into the origin of Tarzan.
July 1- The BFG. Roald Dahl’s children classic book will find new life in the movies this year and is being produced by Disney. Not much is currently known about the plot or what to expect but being Disney, I have some faith.
July 8- The Secret Life of Pets. From the makers of Despicable Me, we get another animated feature showing how pets act when their human owners leave them alone for the day.
July 15- Ghostbusters. With an all female lead cast, we are getting a remake of the classic Ghostbuster, people are really on the fence for this movie, so I guess we’ll just wait and see come July.
July 29- Jason Bourne. The newest entry in the Bourne series shaping up to be another action packed thriller that we have come to know and love from the Bourne Series.
August 5- Suicide Squad. The next installment to the DC expanded universe we meet a team of villains who are on their way to saving the world. You can expect an action packed, comedic, fun ride with this movie while still taking itself seriously when needed. With an all-star cast expect good things from this film.
That brings us up to the beginning of the fall semester, go out there and enjoy some fun movies with friends and family, possibly a date, and have a great summer!
