Sundance Film Festival 2023: Continued
The following entry is a review and commentary on the movie screening attended in-person at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
Plan C:
“Plan C” highlights the story of a group of women working hard to get the medication Mifepristone to women searching for an alternative to pregnancy. Touching on abortion bans and Roe v. Wade’s overturning, we heard many voices of the people impacted by this project. Throughout a changing political atmosphere, the group of women had to alter their business to ensure safe and legal access.
While watching the film, I couldn’t help but be in awe of the bravery and dedication of the women involved. They would drive a van to make the medication mobile, and continued to deliver even after their van was identified by threatening pro-life protesters. At one point, they kept shipping to women in states where the medication was banned until it was decidedly, absolutely illegal.
The story and issue at hand has proven to be so polarizing that a significant number of women featured chose to remain anonymous, though their actions remained significant for those who were serviced. I was shocked by one woman who was not pregnant, but took the medication in order to prove how safe the drug was for consumption. The film seemed to speak to those who align with Plan C’s mission, preaching to the choir. Watching the group of women plan and take action for something they felt so strongly about left me with a little more faith in Americans regarding women’s rights and helping those in need.
