THE OLD LYRIC REPERTORY COMPANY ANNOUNCES THE 2006 SEASON

The last repertory company in Utah opens its 40th anniversary season on June 15th. The Old Lyric Repertory Company’s (OLRC) 2006 season features four productions: “Relative Values,” “Postmortem,” “Route 66” and “Noises Off,” which will run from June 15 to August 5.

“Exceptional acting, entertaining stories and ingenious directing are set to make this season one of the OLRC’s best,” said Jeremy Gordon, OLRC Public Relations Director. “With the variety of plays, there is something to please everyone.”

“Relative Values,” by Noel Coward, is a truly comedic look at the complications that come with the engagement of an American movie star and a prominent dowager. Set in England, it deals with old lovers, inappropriate family members and the maneuvering to set everything right.

“Postmortem,” by Ken Ludwig, brings mystery and suspense to the theatre as the tables are turned on Sherlock Holmes. While exploring the motives of the murder of his fiancé, Holmes doesn’t realize that someone is actually trying to kill him. “Postmortem” will have you in suspense, right to the shocking finish.

Take a nostalgic trip across the country with the musical “Route 66” by Roger Bean. Classic tunes from the 50s and 60s accompany the adventures of four Texaco attendants as they drive from Chicago to L.A.

Vosco Call, OLRC co-founder and director returns this season to direct “Noises Off,” another of his popular farces. “Noises Off,” by Michael Fray, takes a satiric look at a troupe of performers and their frustrated director as he tries to pull together the play, “Nothing On.”

“We are looking forward to a wonderful season,” says Colin Johnson, the OLRC’s artistic director. “We have an exceptional mixture of OLRC veterans and newcomers this season, and four productions that will keep the summer fresh and lively at the Caine Lyric.”

A major change happening at the Caine Lyric this summer is the new 7:30 p.m. curtain time, which is the theme for this season, the OLRC’s 40th. According to Johnson, “The theme of our anniversary season is inspired by a work of one of out playwrights, Noel Coward, whose collection ‘tonight at 8:30’ gave us some of his classic one-act plays. Its title referred to the traditional curtain time of the London stage a half century ago.”

“We have many promotional activities and ticket packages available. In its second year, the Caine Lyric ticket office is more streamlined for even better customer service and efficiency, and the Flex-Pass season subscriptions are still the best deal for seeing the four productions throughout the summer,” says Gordon, ” and no one should forget about the benefit gala in July and the promo jeep, which will be out and about all summer.”

The OLRC ticket office, located at 28 West Center, will open May 15. Box-office hours are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Flex-Passes are on sale through Saturday, June 3. Tickets are available now by calling (435) 752-1500 or by visiting the website at www.usu.edu/lyric. Individual tickets range from $12 to $18. The Old Lyric Repertory Company, located in Logan, UT at 28 West Center Street, has produced plays for the past 40 years. The OLRC is closely tied to Utah State University’s theatre department. Four shows are produced annually combining professional casts and advanced theatre students. The season runs from June to August.
