The online Aggie Community
Editor’s note: The owners of the accounts in this story requested to stay anonymous.
Are you in search of niche Utah State online content? Look no further — @usuaffirmations and @usuchicks have your back.
USU Affirmations is an Instagram meme account. It was created around a year ago with the intent of “bringing positivity, love, and support to the wonderful students of USU,” according to the account’s biography.
USU Affirmations posts memes or nice “affirmations” that relate to life in Logan and at USU. One post is a list of “Zodiac signs as weird campus art.” Another post is a picture of the Marketplace in the TSC, captioned, “I will not cry in the Marketplace today.”
USU Affirmations create their own posts rather than receiving submissions for post ideas. They said they were inspired to create the account when they saw other affirmation accounts for colleges and thought it was funny.
The account owner of USU Affirmations said their favorite parts of running the page are interacting with people, being anonymous and engaging with the niche online USU community.
They also said they love engaging with other university affirmation pages, such as @uofuaffirmations. The two accounts have a running joke online about their alliance and relationship with BYU.
USU Affirmations said for the most part, their posts have not caused any controversy.
“I love seeing other USU students spread love and positivity around campus,” they said. “I love seeing little sticky notes and chalk messages, promoting a good attitude can go a long way. Hating everything is not productive. College is hard, but kindness and doing what we can to uplift our peers can help us get through it.”
USU Affirmations said USU students should follow the account because they enjoy engaging with their followers and will respond and converse with people. They said they encourage fellow Aggies to follow and be responsive because there are exciting things coming.
Another USU meme account is @usuchicks. This account is a direct affiliate of the @chicks Barstool Sports community.
USU Chicks is an Instagram page made by women, for women. Most of the content is relatable memes for college students, catered towards the USU community. The account also posts submissions of funny messages from the dating app Tinder.
Followers of @usuchicks can send in submissions for posts. Each week, the account own posts for “Tinder Tuesdays.” Followers can send a screenshot of silly or “out-of-pocket” Tinder messages.
“Aggies should follow my page for the laughs — there’s no harm,” USU Chicks said. “It’s a fun way to see what is going on with other students from USU. It’s funny and you can react with friends. The more content people share, the more fun we can have together.”
USU Chicks said their favorite part about running the page is interacting with students from USU. The anonymity of the account owner creates a safe space for people to share their funny stories within the community.
Although some are now inactive, there are many other social media accounts that create content for USU students. One of these is @usuflannelandbeanie on Instagram, which posts pictures of people around campus wearing flannel and beanie combinations.
Another account is @aggieshuttle on Twitter, which posts updates on “is it safe to ride the Aggie shuttle today?”
These accounts are just a few examples of how Aggies can connect online. They can provide safe spaces for USU students to share their funny experiences around campus.
“The more time you spend with other Aggies, you can build a community,” USU Chicks said.
