Track team earns 3 first place finishes

The Utah State track team traveled to Boise State and Idaho State to compete in the United Heritage Invitational and the Mountain States Games in Pocatello over the weekend.

At BSU, the Aggies had three first-place finishes at the meet.

Sophomore DJ Smith ran to first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91 seconds.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Aggies Jarrett Bush and Dustin Vetica came in third and fourth respectively. Nathan Lloyd and Carson campbell also ran to high finishes by earning third and fourth place in the mile.

Freshman John Strang also earned a first place by going for 6-06.75 in the high jump.

USU’s Matt Price took thrid in the event with a jump of 6-02.75. In the women’s high jump, sophomore Katrina Smart placed third.

Sara Dimmick, Lacy Schroeder, Kiana Skabelund and Cachet Webb came in first in the women’s 4-by-400-meter relay with a time of 3:54.62.

Thatcher also ran to a second place finish in the women’s 400-meter while Schroeder came in fourth in the 60-meter.

In Pocatello, competing against nationally ranked BYU along with nine other teams, Carrie Yost represented the Aggies.

She finished sixth in the long jumpand 11th in the shot put.

The track team will next travel to Boise again to compete in the WAC Championships on Feb. 24-25.
