Chris Barney

Utah Statesman: How do you feel about being the Utah State Athlete of the Week?

Amber Tracy: It’s definitely an honor. I am so happy, I’m ecstatic to receive it.

US: How do you feel about the team’s success so far?

AT: It’s exciting to see our improvement from last year. It’s really exciting to be here for four years and see the improvement.

US: How do you feel about Utah State’s new head coach, Heather Cairns?

AT: She definitely has added to the program. Her positive attitude has definitely added to the team to win some games.

US: What are your goals for this season?

AT: For me personally, they are to leave it out on the field and have fun. To have a positive attitude and have fun.

US: How has your progress been on these goals?

AT: I think that having a positive attitude has helped me relax and play better on the field and it has shown by putting a few goals in.

US: What is your favorite soccer memory?

AT: It would have to be scoring the winning goal last Sunday. Having the whole team run and jump on top of you. I don’t think there is a better feeling.

US: Your mother played soccer on the El Salvador national team. Did she teach you how to play soccer?

AT: Yes, she was my first coach. If anything, I got my passion and love for the game from her.

US: You have scored the winning goal in three games this season. Is this going to continue as a habit?

AT: I hope so. I think I do better under pressure. I love pressure. It makes me succeed, aspire higher.

US: What do you have to say about your team’s defense which has allowed only six goals this season?

AT: I think they are amazing. They are what has made us win. They play so hard and it rubs off on the whole team. They bring intensity to the team. They’re awesome.

US: You are the third soccer player to be Athlete of the Week. How do you feel about the team receiving this recognition?

AT: I feel like I owe this honor to my teammates. Without them I wouldn’t have won this award. I’d like to thank my team. It’s definitely an honor.

US: How do you feel about the team’s good start in Big West Conference play?

AT: I’m definitely optimistic. All that is on my mind is winning the Big West. I have no doubt we can do it if we stay together as a team.
