Tremonton community in mourning after deaths of two police officers
On Sunday, Aug. 17 at 700 N. and 200 E. in Tremonton, Officer Eric Estrada and Sgt. Lee Sorensen were shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call.
Another officer and police K-9 were also injured in the shooting but have been discharged from the hospital and returned home.
The suspect is 32-year-old Ryan Bates, who is currently in custody. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for capital offenses.
A public procession, starting in Taylorsville and ending in the officers’ respective hometowns of Logan and Garland, was held Monday evening.
Public viewings for both officers will be held in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Thursday at 10 a.m. for Estrada and Friday at 10 a.m. for Sorensen. Both funerals will also be broadcast by various outlets.
