Playing her final collegiate game, Utah State University striker Brigid Turner went out with a bang Sunday afternoon, bowling over two Aggie records.

USU flattened the University of Idaho Vandals 3-0 in Moscow, with Turner collecting all the goals. She ends her career with 15 goals, two more than former Aggie Jayme Gordy’s mark of 13.

The three goals gave Turner six points on the day, giving her the other record – 32 points in one season, four more than Gordy’s 28.

The Aggies (8-9-3, 2-6-1) opened up the scoring early as Heather Arnell put through a nice pass to Turner who put in the goal in the third minute.

Then in the 27th minute, Turner dribbled through the defense in the penalty box before putting in an

unassisted goal.

To finish off the afternoon, Turner beat an Idaho defender and rebounded a shot by Lacey Poulton with 16 seconds remaining in the match.

“In the first half, we dominated,” said USU Head Coach Jen Kennedy Croft. “[But] in the second half, [Idaho] had their chances. I felt we were the better team.”

Megan Mills and Amy Johnson split time in front of the net for the third time this season, Mills recording one save in the first half and Johnson tallying two in the second.

With the Vandals’ record (2-14-3, 0-8-1), they have been struggling all season long, and USU took advantage, exploiting every weakness Idaho had.

“They have been struggling and you can see why,” Croft said. “They’re just not very athletic [but] they’re not a bad team and they are fairly well-organized.”

The Aggies out shot the Vandals 16 to 8. USU won only once this season when the other team outshot them along with only being outshot once when they won.

USU also ends the season 4-6 on the road. The last time the Aggies won four games on the road was 1998.

Mustangs and Gauchos to battle for BW title

With the help of UC Santa Barbara losing Sunday, the Cal Poly Mustangs (12-6, 7-1) put their grip on first place by going on the road to beat Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside over the weekend.

The Gauchos (13-4-2, 6-1-1) also defeated Riverside but dropped their first conference game this season to Fullerton 4-3 in double-overtime.

Next Sunday, Santa Barbara will host Cal Poly in a winner-take-all match. The Mustang’s two wins over the weekend give them 21 points while the Gauchos have 19.
